ABOUT US Since 1954, CCI Ottawa has been dedicated to cultivating a vibrant and inclusive city where immigrants and refugees are supported, connected, and empowered. We are a full service settlement agency with multiple departments that offer a wide range of programs and services. Using a client-centred approach, we offer targeted case management. We do needs assessments, support with official documents and paperwork, information and orientation sessions, crisis counselling, housing assistance, translation, language classes, and help navigating public services and agencies such as healthcare, the CRA, Service Ontario, and many others. In addition we offer programs that help newcomers become socially and economically connected, whether through sports, recreation, cultural activities, or job search and networking support. CCI also offers these services in a youth specific context. Finally, CCI Ottawa operates 4 Transitional Housing Sites. Each site provides shelter, food, and wrap around services to support clients as they move into permanent accommodations. This position reports to: Transitional Housing Manager Employment status: Part time- Contract – March 31, 2027 Hourly rate: $26.08 - $27.67 Deadline date to apply: 5PM EST, August 12, 2026 Open to: Internal/External candidates Location: 1754 St Joseph Blvd MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direction of the Manager, the Cook will: Prepare meals for residents. Prepare meals for staff and visitors, as required. Ensure meals are served on time. Familiarize residents with the use of kitchen equipment. Orient and supervise residents who assist with kitchen activities. Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper sanitation and food handling. Prepare and follow the meal menu. Maintain inventory and records of food, supplies, and equipment. Receive and stock deliveries of food. Rotate stock of food. Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen during and after cooking, including countertops, stovetops, sinks, sweep and mop floors, etc. Keep the dining room clean and tidy. Replenish condiments and other supplies in dining areas after every meal. Empty all kitchen garbage as needed and after every meal. Ensure kitchen laundry is washed, dried, folded and put away after every shift. Clean kitchen appliances at least weekly. Perform other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills) Completion of secondary school required. College certificate in cooking or related field preferred. Minimum 1 year of experience working in an institutional or commercial kitchen. Knowledge of health and safety regulations related to meal preparation and food service. Experience preparing meals for large groups. Experience meeting diverse dietary and nutritional needs. Ability to function in a multidisciplinary, culturally diverse workplace. Good organizational skills and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines. Safe Food Handling certificate is required. Fluency in verbal and written English is essential.
