We support the resilience and recovery of people in distress including those affected by mental illness or suicide by providing crisis intervention; safe, long-term and affordable housing; peer connections; suicide grief and family support; advocacy and wayfinding; and providing opportunities to improve your wellness Job Summary Reporting to the Manager, Housing Services, the Building Liaison provides assistance with on-site supportive property management for a residential apartment building that is owned or managed by the CMHA-Edmonton. The position is responsible for liaising with tenants and ensuring that tenants adhere to safety procedures and tenant building rules and regulations. These rules have been established in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act and the CMHA-Edmonton policies and procedures to provide a safe and secure living environment for all tenants. The Building Liaison will establish and maintain rapport and trust with the tenants in a non-counselling peer support manner. The Building Liaison will live on-site. Reduced rental rate available. Job Duties and Responsibilities Property Management Assistance * Provides on-site support within the apartment building through liaison with tenants and the Manager, Housing Services * Assists the Manager, by ensuring tenants adhere to Building Rules in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act and the CMHA-Edmonton policies and procedures * Maintains an awareness of any ‘changes’ in individual tenant behavior (e.g. if tenant exhibits problems with mental health or addiction behaviors) that may warrant the intervention of additional support services * Communicates any observed changes in tenant behavior to the Manager, Housing Services for possible follow-up with other CMHA-Edmonton or community resources * Provides assistance with the mediation or resolution of issues and problems that may arise with or between tenants * Contacts and involves the Edmonton Police Services (EPS), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Mental Health Crisis Outreach Team as necessary to provide emergency assistance in dealing with health, safety and/or security issues that may arise * Ensures that building security is maintained by confirming that doors are locked, and seeing that unwelcome individuals or intruders depart from the building (without endangering personal safety) * Maintains a schedule identifying on-site availability to meet with tenants in person or by telephone, to discuss issues or concerns, for 7 hours per week between the hours of 8:00am and 10:00pm Administration * Maintains records of critical incidents and other relevant information as requested by the Senior Manager, Facilities & Housing Services * Gathers and provides information to the Senior Manager, Facilities & Housing Services regarding the apartment building, overall premises and tenants, including completing incident reports on disturbances, damages and personal injuries Qualifications/Experience CMHA-Edmonton recognizes that candidates all have different skills and experiences to offer. We encourage everyone interested to apply and indicate how you would successfully take on the role. * Grade 12 Diploma (some post-secondary education in Social Work, Psychology or Human Services is preferred) * Previous experience working with individuals with mental health issues * Previous knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act of Alberta * Acceptable attainment and maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check * Attainment and maintenance of a: * First Aid certification * Mental Health First Aid certification * Lived experience of mental health challenges and/or addiction concerns Skills/Abilities * Demonstrated understanding of mental health; mental illness and recovery; information and referral services; and crisis intervention * Good verbal and written communication skills * Strong customer service skills including the ability to interact with tenants in a respectful manner * Problem solving skills to assess problem situations and identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and use good judgement to make recommendations and/or resolve the problem * Strength in determining priorities with the need for flexibility * Ability to meet deadlines and respond calmly to challenging situations * Flexible for hours of work on evenings or weekends * Able to prioritize and communicate; work cooperatively with other staff. * Ability to take direction and work independently to complete tasks Required Training for the Position Within the first 3 months of employment: * First Aid/CPR Training * Self-harm Training * Crisis Management Training/Non-violent crisis intervention * Diversity and Cross-Cultural Training * Aboriginal Awareness Training Within the first 6 months of employment: * GBA+ Training * Brain Story Certification * Mental Health First Aid
