JOB INFORMATION Job Title: Special Ballot Clerk Job Requisition ID: 86178 Organization: Elections Alberta Location: Edmonton Full or Part-Time: Full Time/Part-Time (Preference will be given to applicants who are available to work full-time) Hours of Work: Up to 36.25 hours per week. Preferred shifts and work schedules are not guaranteed. Regular/Temporary: Temporary Wages - the anticipated end date is on or before October 23, 2026 Scope: Open Competition Closing Date: Open until filled Classification: Subsidiary 01B 3625 Administrative Support 2E Salary: $21.91 per hour plus 11.2% in lieu of holidays and vacation ABOUT US Elections Alberta is an independent, non-partisan office of the Legislature. Elections Alberta is responsible for administering provincial elections, by-elections and referenda. Our mission is to serve Albertans as an independent election management body committed to the administration of modern, transparent, and accessible democratic processes that ensure the integrity and enhance the value of Alberta’s electoral system. ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES The Special Ballot Clerk delivers essential services to voters and stakeholders by handling the receipt, verification, and processing of vote-by-mail ballot applications for electoral events. This role involves reviewing and approving applications from the public, as well as contacting electors by phone or email to verify and correct any details on their applications. Additionally, the Special Ballot Clerk processes ballots and ensures that all materials are securely stored and managed. This position also performs data entry and assists with the count of mailed-in special ballots, ensuring that all privacy and security procedures are followed. This role is essential in n delivering front-line services to voters and supporting key electoral processes. It requires excellent communication and customer service skills, the ability to follow processes with precision and efficiency, a keen attention to detail, and strong collaboration within a team. There may be several job opportunities available and may start as soon as possible. This posting will remain open until such time as all required positions have been filled. The primary shift is day-time from 8:15 am to 4:00 pm. The shifts may increase to the following: * 8:15 am to 4:00 pm weekdays * 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm weekdays * 8:15 am to 4:00 pm / 10:00 am to 4:00 pm / 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm weekends Preferred shifts and work schedules are not guaranteed. Full-time hours may be available based on your openness to work evenings and weekends. Only employees with open availability may be guaranteed full-time hours. This is an in-person role at Elections Alberta’s facilities in Northwest Edmonton. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience * High school diploma or directly related experience considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education. * Experience in registration, admissions, or claims processing, intake coordination, data entry, documentation, administrative/clerical experience, and elections experience. * Experience with secure handling of files and records would be considered an asset. Skills and Abilities * Excellent speaking, listening, and reading communication skills to make and answer phone calls professionally, serve callers, receive and provide information, and interact with colleagues. If English is not your first language, you must provide documentation demonstrating CLB 8 in reading, speaking, and listening. * Ability to speak languages other than English would be considered an asset. * Strong computer skills, ability to learn new applications, and use Windows and MS Office applications. * Ability to follow direction and detailed processes and complete assigned work in a timely and efficient manner with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. * Excellent judgment and problem-solving abilities; ability to assess problems, recognize the significance of problems, and appropriately escalate problems quickly and accurately * Ability to work independently and in a team environment, following directions and accepting constructive coaching and feedback. * Maintain confidentiality and appropriate controls working with personal information. * Must be prepared and able to act as a non-partisan representative of Elections Alberta. Remains impartial in all dealings during electoral event. * Ability to lift up to 15 lbs * Ability to walk distances up to 8 kilometres * This position is in-person at Elections Alberta’s facilities in Northwest Edmonton. Candidates must be able to commute to the office for their shifts. * Is available and willing to work varying schedules. Preference will be given to applicants who are available to work full-time.
