The National Arts Centre (NAC) is Canada's bilingual, multi-disciplinary home for the performing arts. The NAC presents, creates, produces, and co-produces performing arts programming in various streams-the NAC Orchestra, Dance, English Theatre, French Theatre, Indigenous Theatre, and Popular Music and Variety-and nurtures the next generation of audiences and artists from across Canada. The NAC is located in the National Capital Region on the unceded territory of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation.

Key Activities

Under the supervision of the Manager, Visitor Experience and as part of the Operations team, the Welcome Centre Attendant greets visitors upon their arrival and responds to their inquiries, including requests for information on events and performances taking place at the National Arts Centre (NAC). Additionally, they provide knowledge of the downtown Ottawa area and assisting in supporting the visitors while they are at the NAC. The incumbent is also responsible for answering telephone and email inquiries, assisting visitors, as required, and collaborating with internal stakeholders across departments in support of the goal of offering exceptional, accessible, welcoming, safe and inclusive visitor experiences.

Skill Requirements

  • Fluently bilingual in both official languages;

  • High School diploma;

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with the public in a service-oriented organization;

  • Excellent initiative and judgment in dealing with the general public in a fast-paced environment;

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools (Teams, Outlook, Microsoft Suite);

  • Ability to work within a flexible schedule between 0-20 hours per week, when required;

  • Must be available no less than 10 hours per week, with work shifts scheduled between 8:00am and 11:00pm on weekdays, and between 9:00am and 11:00pm on weekends (these hours are not guaranteed, shifts are based on operational needs);

  • Ability to maintain consistent performance without direct supervision, showing initiative in identifying and addressing tasks.

  • A past record of satisfactory attendance and punctuality is a requirement.

Regular attendance at work is an expectation of employment and an essential part of every job.
