Location

This position is required to work in person at various sites across the city, Burlington Performing Arts Centre and Student Theatre Centre. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.

Position Overview

The City of Burlington is seeking an experienced and dynamic Specialized Program Instructor, RCC – Dance and Choreography to support the delivery of our summer performing arts camps, featuring productions of Mean Girls and The Prom.

This role is ideal for a passionate choreographer and musical theatre professional who enjoys working with youth performers in a collaborative, creative, and supportive environment.

Reporting to the Senior Program Instructor, RCC – Performing Arts Camp, this position plans, prepares, collaborates, teaches, and executes in rehearsal and performance the choreographic and dance aspects and elements of the Performing Arts Camp theatrical productions. Working closely with staff and participants, the Specialized Program Instructor will guide campers through a structured rehearsal and performance process while ensuring a positive, supportive, and well-managed environment.

The camps will run weekly from Mon-Fri., June 29, 2026 – July 24, 2026. This contract position will start on Monday June 8, 2026, and conclude Friday July 31, 2026.

Successful applicants will be expected to be present for all mandatory training that will take place in June of 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and adapt materials for teaching, rehearsing, and performing choreography routines to support camp productions (Mean Girls and The Prom).
  • Teach and rehearse choreography, movement, staging, musical theatre dance technique, and performance storytelling appropriate for youth performers.
  • Prepare rehearsal parts, script breakdowns, and supplemental choreography as needed for camp participants.
  • Collaborate with creative team to plan the show's creative vision and how to schedule and execute it.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.
  • Support camp participants in developing performance skills, confidence, and teamwork.
  • Communicate effectively with families, staff, and City representatives as required.
  • Ensure all activities align with City policies, safety standards, and program expectations.
  • Escalate behavioural, safety, or wellbeing concerns as appropriate.
  • Successful applicants will assist in ensuring the safety and supervision of participants both on and offsite and are expected to implement and participate in activities. All staff must always adhere to all health and safety regulations
  • Duties and responsibilities are inclusive but not limited to the above

Requirements

  • Completion of a College Diploma in Dance, Dance Movement or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in dance instruction, choreography or musical theatre.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR-C certifications are required (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience working with children and/or youth in a camp or educational setting
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating safe spaces for youth
  • High five certification is an asset

This position requires the successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening at their own expense.
