About the role

Headway Centre is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded Recreation Facilitator through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. The Recreation Facilitator will support the development and delivery of recreational, social, and community-based programs within the centre and community. This position offers valuable hands-on learning opportunities in recreation facilitation, event planning, communication, teamwork, and community inclusion within a supportive non-profit environment.

The successful candidate will assist with group activities, participant engagement, community outings, and day-to-day program operations while contributing to a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.

Position Details

  • Position: Recreation Facilitator (Canada Summer Jobs)
  • Location: New Westminster, BC
  • Hours: 30 hours per week (Monday to Friday; schedule may vary based on programming needs)
  • Duration: 9-week temporary summer position
  • Start Date: Immediately
  • End Date: August 28, 2026
  • Compensation: $21.00 per hour

Eligibility Requirements – Canada Summer Jobs Program

To be eligible for this position through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, applicants must:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial and federal legislation and regulations
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

Job Duties Include

  • Assist with preparing, and facilitating recreational and community-based activities
  • Support arts, fitness, workshops, games, and group recreation sessions
  • Help organize activity materials and prepare program spaces
  • Encourage participant engagement and support accessible participation
  • Assist staff during community outings and recreational events
  • Support transportation coordination and participant safety during activities
  • Monitor participation and communicate observations with supervisors
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, organized, and welcoming environment
  • Support day-to-day program operations and participant engagement within the centre

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Comfortable working in a team-oriented and participant-focused environment
  • Organized, dependable, and adaptable in a fast-paced setting
  • Interest in recreation, social services, community inclusion, or non-profit work considered an asset
  • Experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities is considered an asset, but not required
