Tasks:

  • Undertake bibliographical research;
  • Take part in the analysis of primary sources;
  • Take part in writing a history of a residential school in English;
  • Take part in creating an interactive timeline;
  • Depending on need, transcribe handwritten documents and/or translate excerpts from archival documents from French to English;
  • Attend work meetings with members of the research team from Cowessess First Nation.
  • Please note that this project deals with emotionally difficult subjects, and requires great discretion.

Position Requirements

The research assistant will:

  • Be a student at the University of Regina;
  • Have strong reading skills and high writing competency in English.
  • Having a solid knowledge of issues tied to residential schools, to colonialism, and to the current realities of the Indigenous peoples of the plains is an asset.
  • Having training in history is an asset.
  • Speaking French, with strong reading skills, is an asset; there are multiple positions but one student will be hired specifically to look at French documents.
