Role Overview McElhanney Ltd. is looking for a GIS Technician to join our GIS & Mapping team in Fort St. John, BC. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or intermediate-level GIS professional to contribute to a variety of projects supporting teams and clients across Western Canada. In this role, you will use specialized GIS and mapping software to process, manage, analyze, and visualize spatial data and produce high-quality mapping and GIS deliverables. You’ll work collaboratively with a team of GIS and technical professionals, gaining exposure to diverse projects, technologies, and applications across the organization. This role offers the opportunity to grow your technical skills in a fast-paced, innovative environment and may initially be offered on a part-time basis, with the potential to progress into a full-time, permanent position. Our teams leverage drones, LiDAR, spatial technologies, 3D modelling, and virtual/augmented reality to capture, analyze, and communicate information in new and meaningful ways. From monitoring major Canadian LNG projects to uncovering hidden archaeological sites and developing innovative community mapping applications, our work goes far beyond creating maps- we turn complex spatial data into insights that help our clients make better decisions. This role is designated as a safety sensitive position. What You’ll Do Create and/or update plans / maps using ESRI software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise (server) Cartographic production, data compilation/editing/creation, geodatabase design and creation, GIS analysis, geoprocessing, georeferencing, data conversion and metadata implementation. Edit, revise, update and correct existing ESRI digital maps. Maintain quality control and inspect final compositions to ensure completeness and accuracy. Create data & maps to publish to ArcGIS Server and/or ArcGIS Online for use in Mobile and Internet based GIS. Help support other internal technicians in their data needs for innovation, research and technology into 3D modeling for AR and VR applications. Establish good rapport and build relationships with peers and clients by responding to requests and communicating information in a timely manner. Ensure a broad understanding of in-house departmental requirements and all internal reference materials. Perform other GIS Branch duties as required. What You’ll Bring Advanced Diploma/Certificate in GIS from an accredited university or technical school with 1-3 years minimum experience in the GIS field. Working experience with ESRI Collector, Safe Software FME, Field Maps, Survey 1-2-3, Web App Builder, AutoCAD, Global Mapper, MicroStation is an asset. Working knowledge of ESRI software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Server) is essential. Proficient in Microsoft Excel is essential. Programming/scripting skills (ArcPy, HTML, JavaScript) is an asset. Ability to work under pressure generated by deadlines and workload. Multitasking and being reactive to ever-changing project tasks. Excellent organizational skills, communication skills, and attention to detail. Familiarity with integration of CAD data into GIS format is essential. Experience in Utility data (Water, Oil/Gas, etc.) is an asset. What Can We Offer You? The salary range for this position is $62,000 - $93,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
