Indigenous knowledge is valued and considered an asset in this role. The instructor is responsible for all instruction and evaluation for assigned course portions. They must also be available for student meetings outside of official classroom hours and complete mandatory university training.

Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Education, a Master's, or a PhD in education or a related field. Additionally, they must be a registered teacher with an appropriate licensing authority such as the Ontario College of Teachers.
