Join Northwood and be part of something bigger! Northwood is currently accepting applications for a Housekeeper to join our Halifax team! Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Services the Housekeeper performs cleaning duties while helping to support and provide a safe working environment. Qualifications Minimum of Grade X or equivalent. Must be able to read, write, comprehend and follow through on specific instructions. Ability to lift, pull, push and move heavy equipment and heavy furniture on a regular daily basis (50lbs). Good personal hygiene. Previous laundry experience. Must have regular and consistent attendance in accordance with the Northwood corporate standard. Ability to work well with others including: co-workers, supervisors and residents. Ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision. Must have a minimum of 2 years work experience in the housekeeping field in a Long Term Care or Acute Care environment. Must have knowledge of floor stripping, WHMIS, carpet care, and refinishing floors. Responsibilities Perform cleaning functions in assigned areas. Collect and transport garbage, recycling with the ability to push/pull large carts. Performs periodic floor and carpet maintenance in accordance with established procedures and prescribed techniques. Operates washers and dryers adhering to established formulas and manufacturer’s instructions. Assists, as necessary, in other laundry duties such as folding, untangling, pressing, packages, and the distribution of clean linen/laundry. Cleans and maintains washing and drying equipment for use in linen/laundry including the linen and laundry rooms. Follows safe work practices for chemical use including proper labeling, storage and use. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is used as recommended on Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Maintains cleanliness, orderliness and general repair of equipment and work area. Completes project/special cleaning, in areas as assigned by the supervisor. Complete specific set-ups for special functions. Completes office moves - transporting of desks, cabinets and other furniture from one area to another as requested by supervisors. Perform comprehensive cleaning and maintenance of assigned areas, including floor and carpet care. Manage laundry operations and transport materials or furniture as requested by supervisors.

Requires a minimum of 2 years of housekeeping experience in a Long Term Care or Acute Care environment. Must be able to lift 50lbs and possess knowledge of WHMIS and floor refinishing techniques.
