Position Department: Softball Position Type: Staff Part-Time Overview: This individual plays a pivotal role in the strategic development, competitive success, and holistic growth of the student-athletes within the program. Operating in a high-stakes, fast-paced NCAA Division I environment, this position supports the Head Coach in all aspects of program management, including technical skill instruction (such as hitting, pitching, or defensive specialist work), tactical game-planning, and the identification and recruitment of elite-level prospects. Beyond the field and batting cages, the Assistant Coach serves as a dedicated mentor committed to fostering academic integrity, personal accountability, and strict compliance with all NCAA, conference, and university regulations, ultimately helping to build a championship-caliber culture that elevates the institution's athletic profile. Responsibilities: * Player Development & On-Field Coaching Technical Instruction: Lead daily skill-development sessions and practices, specializing in a specific area (e.g., pitching/catching, hitting, or infield/outfield defense). Game-Day Strategy: Assist the Head Coach with scouting opponents, developing tactical game plans, and making real-time adjustments during games (e.g., calling pitches, coaching third base, or positioning defense). Video Analysis: Utilize softball-specific technology and analytical software to analyze player performance and scout upcoming opponents. * Off-Campus Recruiting: Travel to travel-ball tournaments, high school games, and showcase events to identify, evaluate, and recruit elite-level prospects. * Program Operations & Administration Team Travel Logistics: Coordinate team travel, including hotels, meals, ground transportation, and practice times on the road. Equipment & Budgeting: Manage softball equipment inventory, apparel distribution, and coordinate with brand sponsors (e.g., Easton, Rawlings, Wilson) for gear orders. Camps & Clinics: Plan, market, and direct youth softball camps and elite clinics to generate program revenue and assist in local talent identification. * Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: * Candidates for the position must hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution * Candidates must possess a minimum of 2 to 3 years of collegiate softball coaching experience or a demonstrated history of elite-level playing experience, preferably at the NCAA Division I level. * Required experience must include a proven track record of teaching advanced on-field technical skills (such as hitting, pitching, or defensive play), as well as hands-on experience navigating the Division I recruiting landscape and maintaining strict compliance with NCAA bylaws. Preferred candidates will have 3 to 5 years of collegiate coaching experience, experience using modern softball analytics and player-development software (such as Rapsodo, Synergy, or Yakkertech), and a background in coordinating team travel logistics and managing youth camps. * NCAA Compliance: Deep understanding of NCAA Division I rules, recruiting calendars, and compliance regulations. * Softball Technicalities: Advanced knowledge of fastpitch softball rules, strategies, and mechanics (e.g., pitching spins, hitting biomechanics, defensive schemes). * Scouting & Analytics: Familiarity with modern scouting methodologies and how to translate opponent data into actionable game plans. * Elite Instruction: Proven skill in breaking down complex athletic movements and teaching advanced skills to high-performing student-athletes. * Technology & Data Analysis: Skill in utilizing and interpreting data from industry-standard softball technology (such as Rapsodo, Blast Motion, Synergy Sports, and Yakkertech) to drive player development. * Communication & Recruiting: Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required to build trust with recruits, families, travel coaches, and campus stakeholders. * Logistics & Organization: Excellent time-management and organizational skills to handle team travel, equipment management, and camp coordination. * Leadership & Mentorship: Ability to motivate, guide, and support a diverse group of student-athletes, fostering both athletic success and personal growth. * Collaborative Teamwork: Ability to work cohesively under the direction of the Head Coach and collaborate effectively within the broader athletic department. * Resilience & Adaptability: Ability to work under high pressure, make quick decisions on the field, and maintain a demanding schedule that includes extensive travel, weekends, and holidays.
