QUICK FACTS - Salary: $18.25 - Benefits: Flexible work schedule; professional development opportunities - Additional perks: Experience across multiple programs and age groups - Reporting to: Child Care Manager - Team: YMCA Child Care team (educators and leaders) - Location: Penticton – Queens Park Elementary and Uplands Elementary - Schedule: On-call, Monday–Friday between 7:30am–6:00pm This role is ideal for someone who is flexible, enjoys variety, and is passionate about supporting children’s development in a fun and engaging environment. WHAT YOU WILL DO As an On Call Child Care Substitute, you will support high-quality program delivery: - Assist in planning and delivering programs aligned with YMCA values (Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Caring, Inclusiveness) - Maintain safety and supervision in accordance with licensing requirements - Build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues - Engage with children ages 1–12 as a play partner and homework helper - Support play-based learning including literacy, math, science, creative play, and physical activity - Promote inclusive, respectful interactions among children - Participate in YMCA community initiatives WHAT YOU BRING - Minimum age of 19 (as per licensing standards) or ECE Assistant certification - Minimum 20 hours of training in child development, safety, or related fields (Responsible Adult Certificate) - Valid First Aid Certificate with CPR Level B or C - ECE-A, ECE, or Infant/Toddler certification (asset) - Reliable transportation - Valid Class 4 driver’s license (asset) WHO YOU ARE - Committed to the YMCA mission, vision, and values - Service-oriented with a focus on participant experience - Strong relationship builder and communicator - Flexible, adaptable, and dependable in a fast-paced environment - Energetic, caring, and collaborative team player WHY JOIN US - Be part of a dynamic, supportive, and growing child care team - Gain experience across different programs and age groups - Make a meaningful difference in children’s lives - Enjoy flexible shifts that support work-life balance Additional Requirements - Provide three professional references - Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search (within 6 months of start date) - Completion of YMCA training and onboarding requirements The YMCA of Southern Interior BC is an equity employer and encourages applications from all individuals who may contribute to the diversity of our workplace.
